One may not be able to sponsor a child through IIF. However, God may have graciously gifted you in various skills that would be useful in the communities in which we work. There are several opportunities for skilled individuals and groups to get involved. The following would be much appreciated;
Medical services
Due to poverty and limited access to health services, the communities would benefit from skilled personnel to do free medical check ups.
Agriculture training
Training farmers to make a shift from domestic production to commercial agriculture in order to improve on their household incomes.
Vocational Skills Training
When a child is not able to attend university, they may be able to take up a skill such as tailoring, computer that would enable them to earn an income. Over 90% of the children in these communities that have dropped out of school are not engaged in any income generating activity.
Counselling and Mentoring
Poverty in rural communities, early death of parents and other factors have led to a population of young people who have little to no motivation in life. This results in teenage pregnancies, occurring as early as at 16 years and at 20 years you find a young girl having 3-4 children or even more that they are unable to feed or educate.
Redundancy and idleness is also rampant amongst the young people in such communities.
We therefore call upon volunteers skilled in counseling and mentoring to come and partner with IIF to empower these young people and raise their self esteem. When they begin to feel the value added to their lives, they will start to make decisions that will positively influence their future and their communities as well.
